“I did not become a colonist because I set my eyes on raising a fortune. My parents once told me that we should chase after our dreams; and that is what I have done throughout my life. I knew that a part of me would always remain on Earth, but now that we are in a different planet, I am resigned to never going back again. And neither do I look back. All I am telling you is that you should resign yourself to never going back home again.”
The captain held back tears, and his voice had begun to crack. It had been a moving moment for all of us within the spaceship. After a brief moment of silence, the Commanding Officer also stepped up to the podium; his face was as stern as ever - he did not feel the same way as the captain.
“You say that we should be brave and walk into the depths of a dark and dangerous cavern; this thing you call a planet. But it sounds to me like you are chasing a selfish dream instead. If we die, there will be nobody to remember us. We will become little more than debris floating through space. I request - no, I demand that we turn back now while we still can!”
“We will not go back, Commander! Can’t you see how far we have come? How can you throw away that which we have worked for so long, just because of a moment of insecurity!”
“You are insane! We barely have enough supplies to maintain the crew for more than a month! How will we live here?”
“We will find away. I have already sent out an expedition team to analyze the atmospheric conditions, as well as to collect samples of indigenous fauna.”
“You give me no choice but to contact headquarters, Captain. If I allow you to carry out your ambition you will doom us all.”
